Results:

In our study, 913 patients had a total of 1184 vitamin D test results. 224(24.5%) of the patients were male. The mean age of the patients was 39.9±19.5 years. The average of the vitamin D results was found to be 19.6±9.6ng/mL. Test result mean of male gender was significantly higher than females. The average of test results aged 50 and over was significantly higher than those under 50 years old. The highest mean results were seen in November.
220(24.1%) patients had at least one control test during the year. 693(75.9%) patients didn't have control test result after treatment, if any. 650(93.7%) of latter had deficiency(<20ng/mL) or insufficiency(20-30ng/mL). 45(20.5%) of 220 patients follow-up results improved from Deficiency or Insufficiency to Insufficient or Adequate levels. Only 24 patients improved to an Adequate level within the year. Among all test findings, the results with sufficient vitamin D level were seen only in 108(9.1%) results.

Conclusions:

25(OH)Vitamin D is a test recommended in the elderly, obese, pregnants, during the lactation period, in some medicine usage, in the presence of other clinical conditions and suspicious symptoms, and follow-up after treatment. Although there are controversies about vitamin D testing, when clinical conditions need, it would be beneficial to control blood levels of a vitamin that is widespread deficient, causes secondary clinical conditions and is being investigated for its anti-inflammatory effects.
